Award-winning actress, Asin Thottunkal was born on October 26th, 1985 in Kochi town of Kerala to Joseph Thottumkal, a businessman and a doctor mother Seline Thottumkal. Asin grew up dreaming to become an actress. She is an only child to her parents. Asin started her schooling in Naval Public School, Kochin. She has completed her B.A. English Literature at St. Teresa's College, Kochi. Asin learnt her basics in acting from a private acting institute. She has shifted from her home town Kochi to Chennai, where she stays on Harrington Road. Before becoming an actress, she was a part-time model and a businesswoman.
Since becoming the leading actress in South India, Asin has opted to move into Bollywood, to get nationwide fame. Her first film, Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan is the remake of her breakthrough film, whilst she also has Vipul Shah's London Dreams alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in her forthcoming releases.
She has also been signed for an English language film named The 19th Step, to be produced by Walt Disney in which she will act alongside Kamal Hassan and critically acclaimed Japanese Actor Tadanobu Asano. This film is expected to be a multilingual film with the film being made in English, Tamil and Japanese.
